Online Courses - MOOCs

University of Central Missouri pagenameThere are over 6,500 accredited colleges and universities in the United States, which collectively enroll over 15 million students, granting two million bachelors degrees a year. Pursue your career interests, not high-paying starting salaries, and your overall job earnings will reflect the enthusiasm that you bring to your work, increasing over time as you gain business experience. Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending college, and you might end up earning a lot of money as a highly-skilled, technical consultant, or by starting your own small business. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, and offer a variety of learning platforms, utilizing cloud-based software and Google apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree earned on campus. Khan Academy now offers over 3,900 micro-lectures available via YouTube. Coursera, another online-learning software platform, has millions of enrolled students around the world. Technical Degree Programs

By focusing on online degree programs, along with job search resources to locate career opportunities, new graduates may be able to land high-paying jobs in computer programming, health care, and business administration. An associates degree is a two-year program that either results in an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree. It is often a general degree that is structured similarly to the first two years of a bachelors degree. The greatest downside to an associates degrees in the job market is only that you will be competing with individuals holding bachelors degrees. Therefore, make sure you're comfortable in the niche you've chosen.

There is indeed a shortage of nurses, but please be aware that the education required is very challenging. Community colleges offer an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, and some diploma programs also award certificates in practical nursing. Nurse training can take a long time to complete, based on your ability to learn, and whether you are able to attend nursing school full-time. A licensed vocational nurse (LVN) may provide basic patient care and perform tasks that do not require advanced nursing skills. They cannot administer medication, or provide IV (intravenous) therapy. Review your knowledge of anatomy on this page. After you begin work, the hospital or clinic that you are working for may offer tuition assistance to help attain an advanced degree.

Although the cost of tuition has risen for most 4-year colleges and universities, community colleges and trade schools remain an affordable option for those looking to earn an associates degree. The average community college student graduates with only a few thousand dollars in debt, compared to bachelors degree graduates. This means that associates degree recipients are likely to see a return on their investment sooner than those with a bachelors degree. If you're planning on transferring to a four-year program, an associates degree program can be a good idea. You can save money for the first two years of your education by studying at a local community college, but ultimately receive your bachelors degree from a four-year university.

Advanced Placement exams are offered in a variety of physical sciences, offering you college credit for honors-level classes that you have taken while still in high school. Test yourself with practice exams online, before visiting the College Board website to register to take your actual AP Tests. If you earn a score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam, you may be able to receive course credits or advanced placement, when you start college. You must request that the College Board send your official AP score report to the colleges of your choice, either at the time of testing or afterwards, through a score report request.

Business & Medical Job Listings

Although most jobs which pay six-figure salaries require a college degree, technical fields offer high salaries based more on ability than which school you graduated from. Students will impress future bosses more with an impressive portfolio than with an advanced degree, so practice your skills as a consultant for local companies. Candidates with prior industry experience are preferred by interviewers, so you resume must show a clear pattern of success over time, based on numeric results and personal achievements.
